Shoebox Guitar

 

What you’ll need:

Old shoebox
Scissors
Large rubber bands (4)
Paper towel tube
Pencil
Paint and brush
Glue

Instructions:

  1. Draw a 4-inch circle on the box lid and cut out. (You may need an adult to help you with this part.)
  2. Draw around the tube on one end of the box and cut out.
  3. Draw a guitar shape on the lid of the box.
  4. Outline the shape in black paint. Fill in the shape with another paint color. Paint the tube another color.
  5. Take 2 rubber bands and stretch across the lid on the edge of the circle.
  6. Place the lid on the box. Put the two additional rubber bands on each end of the box to hold on the lid.
  7. Place a pencil under the rubber bands on one side of the circle and glue in place.
  8. Place glue on one end of the tube.
  9. Push the tube into the cut out circle on the end of the box.

Pencil Holder

 

What you’ll need:

Empty soup can
Popsicle sticks (20-25)
Scissors
Glue
Paint/Markers

Instructions:

  1. Wash and dry soup can. Remove lid and label. (You may need an adult to help you with this part.)
  2. Lie out Popsicle sticks and decorate with paint and markers.
  3. Glue sticks to can.

Windsock

 

What you’ll need:

Used and cleaned oatmeal box
Construction paper
Scissors
Glue
Hole punch
Crepe paper or ribbon
String

Instructions:

  1. Cut the bottom off the oatmeal box (both ends will be open now).
  2. Cover the box with construction paper.
  3. Glue the paper onto the box.
  4. Decorate your box.
  5. Glue the streamers or ribbons onto the inside of the box.
  6. Punch four holes along the top of the windsock (space them evenly).
  7. Cut two foot-long pieces of string.
  8. Tie the opposite ends of the string to holes on the other side of the box.
  9. Join the center of the two strings.
  10. Cut a longer piece of string and tie to the center of the joining strings.
  11. Hang your windsock from the longer piece of string.

Wind Chime

 

 

What you’ll need:

Empty plastic liter bottle
Construction paper
Scissors
Markers
Hole punch
String
Assorted items, shells, buttons, small toys, beads, etc.

Instructions:

  1. Wash and dry a plastic liter bottle. Remove label.
  2. Cut bottle in half with scissors. (An adult should perform this step.)
  3. Punch 4 or more holes along the cut edge of the bottle top. (Space them evenly.)
  4. Cut string into 10-inch pieces (to match number of holes punched).
  5. Tie one end of the string to each hole.
  6. Attach various items to the opposite end of the string.
  7. Tie another piece of string around the cap of the bottle. Tie a knot.
  8. Hang your wind chime from the longer piece of string.

What you’ll need:

Paper bag
Stapler
Hole punch
Tissue or construction paper
Glue
Crepe paper or ribbon
Decorating supplies
Candy/Goodies

Instructions:

  1. Fill paper bag halfway with goodies.
  2. Roll top of bag down and staple shut.
  3. Punch a hole along the top near the center.
  4. Cut the tissue or construction paper into fringes.
  5. Cover bag with fringes.
  6. Glue crepe paper streams or ribbons onto the bottom of the bag.
  7. Decorate bag.
  8. Cut a long string.
  9. Tie the string through the hole and knot on the end.

Egg Carton Spider

 

 

What you’ll need:

Styrofoam® egg carton
Scissors
Pipe cleaner
Decorating supplies

Instructions:

  1. Separate 1 cup from the egg carton.
  2. Using your scissors make 8 small holes on the base of the cup (4 on each side). (You may need an adult to help with this part.)
  3. Insert a pipe cleaner into each hole (twist to lock into position) for legs.
  4. Draw a funny face and decorate the body.

Egg Carton Caterpillar

 

What you’ll need:

Styrofoam® egg carton
Scissors
Pipe cleaner
Decorating supplies

Instructions:

  1. Cut the eggcups into strips of six cups each.
  2. Push 2 small pipe cleaner pieces into the top of the end cup.
  3. Insert a pipe cleaner through one side if an eggcup, cross it through to the other side.
  4. Bend down both sides of the pipe cleaner to make legs.
  5. Draw a funny face and decorate the body.

Binoculars

 

What you’ll need:

Yellow cellophane
Tissue roll tubes (2)
Green construction paper
Glue
Black plastic tape
Black cord/Yarn
Clear tape
Hole punch

Instructions:

  1. Cut 2 (2x2) squares of yellow cellophane. Tape the pieces to the tubes.
  2. Cut out 2 (4x7) rectangles of green construction paper.
  3. Brush glue on the pieces of green paper. Roll the tubes onto the paper.
  4. Place black plastic tape around the cellophane. Trimming may be required.
  5. Glue the two tubes together – joining them in the center.
  6. Punch a hole on the outside of each tube near the open end.
  7. Thread cord or yarn through the holes. Tie a knot on the inside.

What you’ll need:

Coffee can with lid (washed)
Knife
Construction paper
Scissors
Glue
Rubber bands
Decorating accessories, markers, paints, ribbon, buttons, glitter, stickers, etc…

Instructions:

  1. Cut a small slot into the plastic lid big enough for coins and bills to pass through. (An adult should perform this activity.)
  2. Cut a piece of construction paper to wrap around the coffee can.
  3. Glue the construction paper onto the can. Place rubber bands around the can to secure the paper in place. Drying time can be as much as one day.
  4. Decorate your bank to reflect your own style!

Gift Bags

 

What you’ll need:

Used paper sack
Pencil
Glue
Old cards
Decorating supplies, markers, ribbon, yarn, feathers, buttons, wallpaper strips, miscellaneous paper, glitter, and other trinkets

Instructions:

  1. Lay the paper sack out flat on a hard surface, like a desk or countertop.
  2. Draw a design on your sack.
  3. Decorate away!

What you’ll need:

Old greeting cards
Hole punch
Ribbon, raffia

  1. Cut out shape or picture you like from the old card.
  2. Punch a hole in the top of your gift tag with a hole punch.
  3. Place a ribbon through the hole punch and tie the ends together.
