Recycling Hope: The Story of St. Jude’s Ranch for Children.

The St. Jude’s Ranch for Children is a safe home environment dedicated to the individual needs of abused, abandoned and neglected children. For years, St. Jude’s Card Recycling Program served as an inspirational “learn and earn” program for the children. Generous donations of used greeting card fronts were sent to the children to be recreated and purchased for a small donation.

Today, there is renewed hope for the children through the Campbell’s Product Labels Recycling Program. Instead of used greeting cards, we at Duke Energy are sending Campbell’s product labels to the children. Families have been detaching Campbell’s soup labels to help support education for 30 years. Now, this same label recycling is making a big difference in meeting the children’s transportation needs at St. Jude’s Ranch. For every 1,500,000 eligible labels received, St. Jude’s Ranch purchases a new minivan. Without this program, the children could not be transported to and from school, doctor appointments and special activities. A small act of kindness that continues to give the Campbell’s Label Recycling Program provides opportunities for the children to grow and experience the communities around them as they mature into healthy and productive adults.
