Rock Animals

 

 

What you’ll need:

Rocks (clean)
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Paint
Brushes
Decorating supplies such as feathers, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, ribbon

Instructions:

  1. Spread out rocks and look at their shapes and sizes.
  2. Form your rocks to make an interesting looking animal.
  3. Glue the shape together (adult supervision will be required for the younger crafters.)
  4. Paint your rock animal and let it DRY!
  5. Add other features like ears, eyes, feet and tails with yarn; ribbon and fabric scraps can be used for hair and clothes.

Pinecone Birdfeeder

 

What you’ll need:

Large open pinecone
Peanut butter
Birdseed, oats or corn meal
2 large pans with lip
String

Instructions:

  1. Tie string into pinecone (string should be long enough to hang from tree).
  2. Pour birdseed into one pan.
  3. Place peanut butter in the other pan.
  4. Roll the pinecone into the peanut butter.
  5. Roll the pinecone into the birdseed.
  6. Suspend pinecone birdfeeder from tree branch.

Mr. Hairy – The Grasshead

 

What you’ll need:

Grass seed
Knee high hose (washed)
Potting soil
Markers/Paint
Small container (used butter tub or yogurt container.)

Instructions:

  1. Place a small amount of grass seed into the foot of the knee high (about 1 tablespoon).
  2. Place 1 cup of potting soil on top of the grass seed.
  3. Tie a knot in the top of the hose.
  4. Now draw or paint a funny face on Mr. Hairy.
  5. Fill your container about 3/4 the way full with water.
  6. Place Mr. Hairy in the container.

Leaf Printing

 

What you’ll need:

Leaves
Paper
Scrap crayons without paper wrappers

Instructions:

  1. Go out into your yard and find some neat leaves, different sizes and shapes.
  2. Clean off any dirt.
  3. Cover your leaf with a piece of paper.
  4. Take the side of the crayon and rub it over the leaf onto the paper.
  5. The image of your leaf will appear.

Potato Prints

 

What you’ll need:

Potato
Knife
Paper towel
Pencil
Stamp pad
Paper

Instructions:

  1. Cut approximately one inch off the end off the potato; pat dry with a paper towel.
  2. With your pencil, draw a shape onto the potato.
  3. Carefully cut away the area outside the shape. You may need to pat the potato dry again. (adult supervision will be required for younger crafters)
  4. Press the potato into the stamp pad.
  5. Press the inked potato carefully onto the paper; lift the potato straight up to prevent smearing the ink.
  6. Repeat the above steps to create new designs.

Pinecone Turkey

 

What you’ll need:

Large open pinecone
Play dough
Construction paper
Feathers (optional)
A nut
Googly eyes
Hot Glue

Instructions:

  1. Place a small amount of play dough on one side of the pinecone to provide balance.
  2. Glue feathers to the back of the pinecone (construction paper feathers may also be used).
  3. Hot glue the nut (acorn or other small nut) to the front of the pinecone (adult supervision will be required for the younger crafters).
  4. Glue on two eyes.
  5. Cut a small piece of red construction paper for the wattle.
  6. Glue wattle to the tip of the nut.
