The environment is all of the natural and living things around us. It is the land, water, air, and all plants and animals including us. Everything we do can affect the environment, from the way we use energy to the products we use at home. That is why protecting the environment is so important.

At Duke Energy, we have Environmental Scientists who help protect the environment on and around our properties. We can all do our part to make our world cleaner and safer.

Here are some things you can do to make a difference for the environment:

Turn off the lights when you leave the room.
Turn off the TV when you’re finished watching it.
Recycle paper, cans, glass and plastic.
Don’t let the water run while brushing your teeth. Turn the faucet on to rinse only.
Use glassware and china instead of disposable cups and plates.
Use sponges or washable cloth instead of paper towel.
Take used items to charities or hold a garage sale.
At restaurants, request water only for those who will drink it.
