is dumpster diving?
Dumpster diving is an on-site investigation
of the trash you are throwing away.
Lets
get started:
You’ll want an adult (teacher or parent)
to help out with this dirty deed. Please remember to watch
out for sharp and pointed objects, such as broken glass, lids
from food cans, razors, etc.
Dumpster Diving Prep:
1. Full trash container (dumpster or waste
basket) from your home or school
2. Old clothes should be worn
3. Antibacterial soap
4. Gloves
5. Tarp
6. Multiple recycling containers
7. Findings List (Provided below)
Next Steps:
1. Make sure everyone participating is wearing
old clothes, closed shoes and heavy gloves.
2. Dump your trash onto the tarp.
3. Segregate the trash into the correct recycling containers.
4. Wash your hands with an antibacterial soap after your investigation
is complete.
5. Record your findings by using the finding list provided.
6. Discuss with family or class on how to set up a recycling
program.
